Welcome to Sisters-In-Motion-Memphis
Memphis, Tennessee
Sisters-In-Motion-Memphis was founded in the fall of 2006 when a small group of concerned African-American women decided to take charge of their lifestyles by promoting wellness. Ranging in age from 24-60+, this group of women stay “in motion” through running, jogging and walking. Membership has grown to a diverse group of more than 130 women that includes educators, judges and attorneys, healthcare professionals, journalists, entrepreneurs, and homemakers to name a few.
Our mission is:
“To encourage and support adult African American women of all ages to become physically active through regular exercise in a supportive and non-threatening environment.”
Since its inception, members have participated in local races such as The St. Jude Full and Half Marathons, Race for the Cure 5K, Dee Griffin Sunset 5K Run/Walk, as well as national and international half and full marathons. In December 2009 SIMM members competed in our first international race, the Reggae Half Marathon and 10K in Negril, Jamaica. In support of healthy living, SIMM members have hosted “how to” seminars on nutrition and living healthy and active lifestyles. In addition to our individual physical improvement, Sisters-In-Motion-Memphis is committed to making a difference in our community. We host our second annual Sisters-In-Motion-Memphis 5K on September 24, 2011 to support and bring awareness to the crisis of high Infant Mortality in Memphis, Tennessee.
We are excited about making a difference in our lives and the lives of others. We invite you to browse our website to learn more about our organization and to commit to getting your body “in motion”.
Sincerely,
Linda D. Sessoms
